Implement EndpointSelector and MatcherPolicy
This change makes the EndpointSelector API more concrete, and is the
beggining of removing EndpointConstraint by making it obsolete.
To that end, I'm introducing MatcherPolicy, which is a
feature-collection API for registering policies that interact with the
DfaMatcher. The two policies that we'll need to start are:
- ability to order endpoints
- ability to append 'policy' nodes to the graph
These two concepts together replace EndpointConstraint. Extending our
graph representation is a really efficient way to processing most common
scenarios.
---
In general this helps with common cases where 4 or so endpoints match
the URL, but with different HTTP methods supported on each. Today we
have to process route values and call into some 'policy' to make a
decision about which one is the winner. This change pushes this
knowledge down into the graph so that it's roughly as cheap as a
dictionary lookup, and can be done allocation-free.
The big savings here is ability to remove more candidates *before*
collecting route data.
---
Along with this change, I also built 'rejection' into the DFA node
model, you can see an example with the HTTP Method handling that I
implemented. I implemented a policy that can treat failure to resolve an
HTTP method as a 405 response by returning a failure endpoint. This is
at the heart of much of the feedback we've gotten in this area around
versioning and http method handling. We also have a version of this
feature in MVC for [Consumes].
For preview one the branding is:
new thing = UseGlobalRouting/UseEndpoint
old thing = UseRouter
We're going to drop the name Dispatcher everywhere and make sure that we
position our new work as 'new and improved routing' instead of
introducing a new product/concept name.
We're not totally sure of the term Global yet, but it's what we're doing
for preview 1. Suggestions welcome for dicussion after we do the first
preview :)
- Add abstract CompositeValidationAttribute.
- Change DataAnnotationsMetadataProvider.CreateValidationMetadata to
populate ValidatorMetadata with validation attributes from CompositeValidationAttribute.
Add benchmarks that include some HTTP method matching.
Clean up names and name like-kinded benchmarks alphabetically.
Matcher*Benchmark -> E2E including HTTP method selection
MatcherSelectCandidates*Benchmark -> Focused on just URL path processing
* Introduce RoutePattern
Introduces RoutePattern - a new parser and representation for routing
templates, defaults, and constraints.
This is a new representation for all of the 'inputs' to routing that is
immutable and captures 'out of line' information for defaults and
constraints.
This will allow us to unify the handling of constraints and values from
attribute style routes and conventional style routes.
- When a surrogate pair is about to be split down the middle we reduce the size of our split by 1 character. This way we split right before a surrogate pair. In the case of zero width joiners, if we split on a zero width joiner we still render valid bytes because the zero width joiner by itself can stand alone.
- Added tests for the various split cases.
#2470
* Refactorings for codefix
- Move some common code in SymbolApiResponseMetadataProvider
- Don't run diagnostics for 1006 if we are unable to parse a return type
This moves source code that used to be in aspnet/Common. It was only used here, so this simplifies the process of working with these internal-only APIs.

In some cases, private keys for certificates is not completely available. When attempting to decrypt key material,
this can cause 'CryptographicException: Keyset does not exist'. This changes the order in which key material
decryption looks up private keys to first key the certificate options provided explicitly to the API, and then
falling back to the cert store for decryption keys.
As discussed in aspnet/Home#3292, we're reversing course on the implicit package version feature. This adds a package version for Microsoft.AspNetCore.App to the `dotnet new` and VS templates.

Removing this from .App in 2.1.3 because this was unused, and the capability is not actually supported by VS. This will be re-added in the future versions of .App when we land the VS integration for in-process hosting.

- Today the async local reference to the HttpContext flows when the execution context is captured. When the http request has ended, the HttpContext property will return the reference to an invalid HttpContext instead of returning null. This change stores both the request id and the HttpContext and makes sure both match before returning anything valid.
- This is still racy but should catch more cases of people doing bad things.
- There will still be issue if people store the context in a local and use that reference instead of accessing it through the property getter but we can live with that.
- Set the TraceIdentifier to null in the default HttpContextFactory
- Added tests
Tidied up some comments, to make the ResetPing client behavior easier to understand.
Will ping in debug mode for consistency. If this becomes a problem when debugging, developers can disable the pings manually. It's easier to fix something noisy, than try to diagnose inconsistently missing behavior.
* Change DefaultApiConventions
* Introduce attributes for matching by name and type.
* Move discovery of ApiConventionAttribute to ApiBehaviorApplicationModelProvider. This is required
for us to detect during startup if the convention is incorrectly authored.
- Regenerated test baselines.
- Update code styling in TagHelpers.
- Modified some comments for clarity.
- Renamed fallback integrity attribute for both script and link tags.
#7845
- Added the necessary infrastructure to serialize and verify the syntax
tree
- Updated ParserVisitor to be overrideable
- Made CSharpVerbatimBlockTest to use baselines
- Prior to this change we weren't strict enough with where our smart indenter ran. We made the assumption that every code block could be smart indented and then Roslyn would "do the right thing". However, in nested code block scenarios we found that Roslyn and us would both indent resulting in extra newlines. These changes make the criteria for applying smart indentation a little stricter.
- Updated directive code block parsing to add a C# marker symbol in cases of an empty code block directive.
- Added unit tests to verify new smart indenter behavior.
- Updated existing tests to expect new syntax tree marker symbol for empty directive bits.
- Regenerated baselines.
#2410
- Added ability to understand valid inserts, deletes and replacements for the `@functions` directive (and any other directive that uses our extensible code block bits).
- Added unit tests.
- Updated existing tests.
- Found an issue when completing some C# items the auto-completions would impact the underlying snapshot after we'd captured the change. Fixed this by forcing a reparse when we detect that our understanding of the latest snapshot and the actual latest snapshot diverge.
#2408
A common cause for runtime view compilation failure in MVC is when an application is published
without reference assemblies. MVC usually handles this at compilation, by looking for specific
error codes. More recently, TagHelper discovery fails with an not-so-helpful error message in this
scenario. This change attempts to add a little more error checking to cover the most common cases
- Allow identical `@using` directives in the primary document. This means that if a user types `@using System` twice in the primary document (i.e. `Index.cshtml`) then we'll generate that using statement twice; this enables proper C# IntelliSense to light up on both using statements and allows auto-completion to work because there's no more magical distinction logic for Razor code that is in the current document.
- Prior to this change if you had two identical using statements in the same document one would be in no-mans land mapped to nothing (not C#, not HTML) and the other would be mapped to C#; the second a user differentiated the two statements (i.e. adding a `.`) we'd distinctify the using statements resulting in an invalid completion.
- This PR has an end-user impact where they will now receive the normal C# warning about having duplicate using. I treated this prior behavior more as a bug because we threw away the first using directive instance which impacted editing and in general was a silly thing to correct for the user.
- Added new integration test showing how using directives are not de-duplicated in the primary document.
#1255
- This is part of a fix for #1255 - this change enables signature help in implicit expressions by improving the partial parsing. We're now smart enough about the contents of an implicit expression and attempt to balance parenthesis to determine if we should not full parse.
#1255
- We need to pre-emptively generate line pragmas to handle C# scenarios which are session based. For instance, if a C# completion session starts at a location without a pragma they capture the origination point; at which point if a user keeps typing we generate a line pragma drastically changing where the copmletion started resulting in a broken C# completion experience.
- Updated test files to reflect new behavior.
#2299
- Prior to this change our brace smart indenter would indent JavaScript blocks incorrectly because it didn't take into account where in a Razor file the brace that it was indenting existed.
- Made it so the brace smart indenter only functions in code/metacode locations within the SyntaxTree.
- Updated and added tests to account for new behavior.
#2297
Changes:
* Add a test project with simple unit tests for the shared framework
* Add root-level Directory.Build.props/targets files
* Cleanup .csproj files to reduce duplication
Here's a code dump of the parts of the Dispatcher prototype codebase
that are needed to get us off the ground.
This first cut attempts to use part of routing where possible, and not
all of those changes will be long-lasting.
I'll leave comments through thoughout the PR for education.
- In 2.1, the default transport (Sockets) can no longer bind to certain
endpoint types (Unix domain sockets and open socket handles).
- The new message recommends manually selecting the libuv transport
to work around this issue.
- VisualStudio defaults to adding a `<none>` link item when right click -> add existing item for Razor files; therefore, this also includes the knowledge of the "None" item group when finding Razor files.
- Added unit and functional tests to verify the new `FallbackRazorProjectHost` behavior.
- Added new schema items to represent the `Content` and `None` item type information (pulled from the project system repo).

The try..finally ensures that the ManualResetEventSlim which AttachCtrlcSigtermShutdown uses is set even when an exception occurs in these two methods.
We want to have a way to specify the taghelper descriptors and imports to use while
processing a specific document.
- Added an overload to Process and ProcessDesignTime to take in a list
TagHelperDescriptors and a list of imports
- Added the corresponding CreateCodeDocumentCore overload
- Added GetTagHelpers and SetTagHelpers extension methods for
CodeDocument
- Added the necessary plumbing to use the taghelpers from the
CodeDocument when available and fallback logic.
- Added DocumentImportsTracker and updated background code generation
logic to use the new overload
- Added/updated tests
- First iteration of live share replaced the document tracker factory entirely; however, this will be prone to breaking changes in the future when me make changes to document tracker to not rely on a file path. To pre-emptively prevent breaking changes I added a project path provider that can be overridden in the live share case. Note that one big difference here between old and new is that instead of being a MEF service implementation for the project path resolution we're bringing that to the Workspace service level.
- Added tests to validate the two flows of the default project path provider.
- The prior strategy of waiting for the pipe completed callbacks doesn't work
because blocks are returned to the memory pool after the callbacks are fired.
- Prior to this the parser would think that a non-latest reparse request was the latest because the only way we would check to see if a change reference was "latest" would be to do an equality check on the snapshot and `SourceChange`; the issue here was that `SourceChange` was null but the snapshots were the same. Problems could arise with this due to project context changes.
- Added tests to validate the new reparse behavior.
- Renamed `Edit` in the `BackgroundParser` to `ChangeReference` also refactored all the "edit" text in `BackgroundParser` to be `ChangerReference` like.
- Added a new event args to be the DTO between the internal and external parser implementations. This is how we could pas additional information in order to determine "latest" change reference.
#2336
This change intoduces content changes to our project snapshots. We now
know the open/closed state of documents that are initialized by the
Razor project system and listen to the correct data source based on
whether the file is open in the editor.
There are a few other random improvements in here as well like a
workaround for the upcoming name change to our OOP client type.
- MEF is the primary means of resolving the new live share provider therefore we allow it to not be registered.
- The new contract is in the Editor.Razor binary so the LiveShare bits don't have to take the dependency on the windows binary in Razor (has a lot of baggage).
- This is specific to live share but providing a generic way to resolve workspaces didn't seem reasonable given the varying expectations in VS4Mac. If we need to make a more generic solution in the future we'll revisit this; for now this is a straight forward inclusion of live share functionality.
- Added tests to validate the new behavior.
- This unblocks the live share scenario of resolving the remote workspace. We can't rely on the projection buffers to provide the correct workspace because that workspace is wired up too late in the process of opening a Razor file.
#2335
The MicrosoftNETPlatformLibrary property instructs the .NET Core SDK to treat a particular package as the shared framework platform. This affects how the SDK will trim references and publish output, determines how the runtimeconfig files are generated, and may affect how optimizations are preformed by other tools. In some installations of .NET Core, the ASP.NET Core shared framework is not available. This change adds properties to let the SDK determine on which platforms ASP.NET Core is enabled.

There was a race condition between the first poll and any other http request that was sent.

This change rationalizes the 2 very similar abstractions that exist in Connections.Abstractions, IConnection and ConnectionContext. It also introduces an IConnectionFactory to SignalR that is used to create a new ConnectionContext for a HubConnection.
- HubConnection just completes both ends of the transport pipe instead of calling DisposeAsync.

- There are too many issues and questions with respect to back pressure and the buffering policy we should use when the client being streamed to can't support the data being pushed via OnNext.
As a result, we're dropping support for IObservable but keeping ChannelReader and we'll eventually support IAsyncEnumerable when that makes it into the BCL.
- Add sample showing Observable -> ChannelReader adaption
- Don't create the PipeWriterStream per operation, make it per Connection
- Reduce the buffer size for CopyToAsync operations to 4K where possible instead of 81K (the default)
- Closing pipes gracefully in most cases. The only case where we forcefully close the pipes is during application shutdown
- Return 404 if sending to connection after disposal

- It also cleans up handling failure in start since the application pipe hasn't been read or written to
- When using the array pool, we get terrible block density and as a result
the header parser was failing.
- This fixes the case where the parser needed to skip 2 blocks at the end
(which is unrealistic). Comparing the current index to the reader index is incorrect
since we may end up at the same index in another segment.

This change undoes a breaking change introduced by the 2.1 model
validation changes. Now an implementation of IValidableObject on a
top-level model will be called correctly with the 'empty' prefix instead
of the parameter name.
When fixing this we undid a workaround for another issue.
When validating a parameter that didn't bind we didn't correctly compute
the model name for 'fallback to empty prefix' cases.
(cherry picked from commit 7a1096a72b)
This changes the logic for when we infer [FromRoute] on an action
parameter from *ALL* to *ANY*.
This means that if a parameter occurs in any route on an ApiController,
we will treat it as [FromRoute]. We think this is the best decision
because it's less ambiguous. If a parameter appears in a route, it won't
be eligible to be bound from query. I think that's good.
If for some reason you want this kind of behavior (route or query) then
we suggest breaking up the actions. This isn't very documentation
friendly (swagger) so we don't suggest it.

- worst case was one or two potential NREs, especially `ContainerType.*` dereferences
- improve `MvcCoreLoggerExtensions` metadata handling
- add three new debug messages, one for type metadata and two for parameter metadata

- Less objects, less opinions about what the ConnectionContext is. This diverges from what we do with HttpContext but it seems better overall.
- Made DefaultConnectionContext
- Usable for unit testing
- Usable for benchmarking
- The model attribute is used to define any object based model to be passed to a `TagHelper`. It enables scenarios when users want to pass in `new` poco types.
- Added unit tests for the new `ResolveModel` method in `PartialTagHelper`.
- Added a single functional test to verify the end-to-end.
#7374
Infers the 'empty' model prefix for complex types that are read from the value
providers. This gives us better defaults when using the parameter object
pattern with respect to swagger/API explorer.
Some details of this pending discussion, but this is a new 2.1 change
and compatibility switch in the spirit of making pages handler selection
less error-prone.
In particular we don't want anyone to have to define HEAD to do the
trivial thing. This currently routes all 'safe' HTTP methods to the GET
handler and all other HTTP methods to the POST handler.
This is technically not the correct thing to do for OPTIONS and TRACE,
so we might still do something different.
The tests will change a little depending on exactly what we decide to
do, but this is the main idea of the change.
Add a `Parameters` bag to the authentication properties that allow
passing arbitrary parameters to an authentication handler. These values
are not intended for serialization of persistence, only for flowing data
between call sites.
Also make existing `Items` collection helpers protected to allow them to
be reused in subclasses, make string-based helpers public as a public
way to work with the collection, and add helper methods to interact with
the `Parameters` dictionary.
- React to rename of EndPoint to ConnectionHandler
- Rename UseSockets to UseConnections
- Rename MapEndPoint to MapConnectionHandler
- Rename HttpSocketOptions to HttpConnectionOptions
* Renames from API review
- Rename Microsoft.AspNetCore.Protocols.Abstractions to Microsoft.AspNetCore.Connections.Abstractions.
- Renamed IConnectionHandler to IConnectionDispatcher (and related properties and types)
- Added ConnectionHandler and UseConnectionHandler extension method to Connections.Abstractions.
- Use ActivatorUtilties to create the ConnectionHandler
Add a way to overwrite query arguments that are passed as part of the
challenge request to the external authentication provider in OAuth-based
authentication providers, including OpenID Connect.
This uses the new `AuthenticationProperties.Parameters` collection to
pass parameters to the authentication handler which will then look for
special items within that property bag, overwriting previously
configured values within the authentication options.
This can be used for example to overwrite the OAuth scopes that are
requested from an authentication provider, or to explicitly trigger a
reauthentication by requiring a login prompt with OpenID Connect. By
being able to specify this on individual challenge requests (using
`HttpContext.ChallengeAsync`), this is independent from the global
scheme configuration.
Custom ~ChallengeProperties types, e.g. `OAuthChallengeProperties` for
OAuth-based authentication providers, provide assistance in setting the
challenge request parameters but are not required to make the handlers
use the overwritten values.
- Adjust authentication handlers to respect the custom parameters, and
add ~ChallengeProperties types.
- Introduce `OAuthHandler.FormatScope(IEnumerable<string>)` to format a
custom set of scopes. Subclasses requiring a different scope format
should override this method instead of the parameterless overload.
Overriding just `FormatScope()` will prevent handlers from supporting
overwriting the OAuth `scope` in a challenge request.
- Refactor GoogleHandler to support parameterization through both the
`Parameters` and the `Items` collection (former is preferred) to keep
compatibility with the old behavior.
- Add an OpenIdConnect sample to overwrite the prompt argument in a
challenge request.
- Add extensive tests.
- The long polling transport simulates a persistent connection
over multiple http requests. In order to expose common http request
properties, we need to copy them to a fake http context on the first poll
and set that as the HttpContext exposed via the IHttpContextFeature.
* Adds extension methods to configure Azure Active Directory B2C
authentication for Web applications and APIs.
* Adds all the supporting controllers/pages to support handling UI
flows.
* Adds a sample using B2C to authenticate in a web application.
* Don't copy the array for incoming msgpack reads
- Don't use ToArray on the already sliced msgpack data.
- Turns out msgpack is self describing enough to not require the count, it just needs the buffer and start offset.
- Made HubCallerContext an abstract class
- Made DefaultHubCallerContext that gets data from the HubConnectionContext.
- Removed IP address
- Removed Connection property
- Don't allocate when enumerating connections
- Don't allocate tasks unless we truly go async
- Don't get the timestamp, just write the pings always (if there's no ongoing write)
- Track the time since last keep alive write instead of the last write
- ValueTask all the things!
- Renamed HubConnectionList to HubConnectionStore
- Today the request services middleware is responsible for making sure there are request scoped services.
This PR tries introduces some breaking changes that are hopefully acceptable in order to gain some performance.
- Here are the assumptions this PR makes:
- Since this middleware is first in the pipeline, the only thing that can
set a default service provider would be the server itself. Since we have no servers that do that
I removed that code that tries to noop if there's an existing service provider.
- This PR no longer restores the previous service provider feature since it gets replaced every request
anyways. Kestrel also clears out the feature on each request so it shouldn't be a problem (in theory).
Once again, since this middleware is first, it is the last thing that runs before the server re-gains
control on the way out so there's no need to restore anything.
- We use the RegisterForDispose method to dispose of the IServiceProvider instead of doing it inline.
Gives our generated a files an extension that isn't used for any other
purpose (that we know of). This is handy for tooling to be able to
quickly know if a file is 'ours'. This comes up in places like
IVsSymbolicNavigationNotify (go to definition).
- #7091
- add `IKeyRewriterValueProvider` to remove rewritten keys or value providers containing such keys
- similar to `IBindingSourceValueProvider` except `CompositeValueProvider` keeps non-implementers around
- remove `after.Order == before.Order` special cases
- a premature optimization that could lead to lost inner provider replacements
- rework `EnumerableValueProviderTest` to ease test override in `CompositeValueProviderTest`
- add `EmptyValueProvider` fields to reduce `CompositeValueProvider` allocations
nits:
- remove Linq use in `CompositeValueProvider`
- do not create an unnecessary dictionary in `CompositeValueProvider.Filter(...)` methods
- accept VS suggestions, mostly pattern matching
* Clean up unnecessary workarounds on the build project.
* Remove the need to specify the content root relative to the solution
and use a solution based on an assembly level attribute on the test
assembly created at build time.
* Remove non parameterless constructors.
* Add support for creating specialized factories from the base factory
and keep track of "child" factories for disposal.
* Add support for creating clients that handle cookies and redirects
automatically.
* Merging changes (from dev branch; doing manually to squash them really)of HTML Parser to be aware of HTML Comments so TagHelpers don't complain about comments as content.
If the line contains a CR in any location than directly before the LF it would detect a valid line and then trim 2 characters from the end of the line, losing a "real" character.
- Introduced Utf8BufferTextReader that writes buffers directly into
the char[] allocated by JSON.NET when reading via the JsonReader.
- Use IArrayPool implementation over ArrayPool<char> when reading
incomming messages.
- Replaced JToken parsing with manual parsing using JsonTextReader.
- Added tests for parsing incoming JSON messages with out of order
properties.
- Make access to message headers lazy
- Changed IHubProtocol.TryParseMessage to be ReadOnlyMemory<byte> instead of ReadOnlySpan<byte>
- Return ValueTask instead of Task from WriteAsync helpers
- Use TryGet instead of foreach to avoid enumerator (though it's just a stack allocation here)
* Metadata is now a first class property on ConnectionContext
- Make IConnectionMetadata a manatory top level feature on ConnectionContext
- TransportConnection will lazily manifest ConnectionMetadata on first access.
This should avoid allocations since Kestrel isn't using this today.
- This PR attempts to move things where they are needed instead of where they
happened to be used. As a result we should now have Sockets.Abstractions and
Sockets down to the minimal set of things required to make them run.
Sockets.Abstractions should go away in favor of Protocol.Abstractions and
Sockets contains the EndPoint abstraction and related types.
- Moved ConnectionManager and friends to
Sockets.Http.
-Removed Sockets and moved everything into Sockets.Abstractions.
- Moved DefaultConnection and put it in Sockets.Abstractions.
- Tied into VS4Macs ProjectExtensions in order to bootstrap our Razor world.
- We currently watch all DotNet projects with the expectation that they're the only ones that can potentially turn into Razor compatible projects.
- Added a fallback Razor project host which is used for pre-Razor SDK Razor versions (< 2.1).
- Added a default Razor project host which consumes all MSBuild data from the users packages and sets up the Razor world accordingly.
- Had to modify some existing contracts to work better with new expectations. one of these was the VS4Mac specific Workspace accessor; essentially we needed to be able to lookup a workspace from a solution.
- Some of our previous expectations about addins were wrong (not being able to directly reference your libraries). To avoid using reflection to bootstrap our types I tried out directly referencing our libraries and all worked fine.
- Refactored the DefaultRazorProjectHost in windows (since we had to in Mac) for testing purposes.
#2081
* VirtualScheme => PolicyScheme
* Use SignInHandler base for cookies
* PolicySchemeHandlers throw NotImplemented by default
* Remove redundant interface
- This change aims to clean up the feature interfaces
used by kestrel and exposed by protocol absractions. It splits out the
IConnectionTransportFeature into smaller features that may or may
not be implemented on the connection.
- Added all of the features from Socket.Abstractions
in an attempt to make it go away completely. As a result
the helper methods and extensions have all been added here.
- Change IConnectionHandler to take TransportConnection. This cleans up the interface and makes it more explicit what features are required by Kestrel
Razor AddIn generation of C# projection content inside .cshtml depends on code completion being visible hence it needs to know state.
Since we are using Roslyn code completion API which doesn't have method to check if code completion is visible and also it's internal, only other way would be to make some public static field inside CSharpBinding which indicates visibility of code completion, hence it's better to just store this value inside textView.Properties. We should be able to remove this in 15.8 when we switch to new VSEditor code completion API.

- For older version of Razor the HTML comments will be complained about by TahHelperRewriter
- RazorParserFeatureFlags tests now ensure that AllowHtmlCommentsInTagHelpers is true in 2.1 version and false in older versions
- Added extra test for IsHtmlCommentAhead to make sure Razor code transition is allowed in comment tag
- Moved the unallowed html comment ending to a static array.
* Add support for generating attributes on Razor assembly
* Generate ProvideApplicationPartFactoryAttribute on Razor assembly
* Generate RelatedAssemblyAttribute on application assembly
Since the default tag helper provider is used by MVC then MVC should
include it. Now that Blazor is in the mix we shouldn't include it for
all configurations.
